The Comb of Wind
Somewhere in San Sebastian, in the Basque region of Spain, at one end of a cradled bay, lives the Comb of the Wind.
It stays between earth, sea and sky - a point between realms, uniting and anchoring them, ready to detangle the breeze, the hair of mermaids, the stars and people's dreams.
The Comb of Wind is an installation, by Eduardo Chillada, comprising of 3 sculptures rising from the rocks, as the sea waves smash around them.
They are rock and steel constructions weighting heavily, visually close, yet physically outside of tangible reach, seemingly in another realm, whose boundaries are there crossable uncrossable, and whose engagers remain ever Unseen.
Despite its perceived heaviness, the Comb of Wind installation feels etheric, airy, be it in sunlight, haze or water bursts.
An offering to the elements, accepted and taken by them into their realms.
In that spot winds seem magical yet friendly. Water seems less dangerous, and more performative, showing its natural bewildering power.
In that spot Earth feels, altogether, for a human, friendly, mighty and captivating. As nothing were to ever harm you. As you are safe to roar and gaze and be, part of a bigger scape that lives in balance and wonder.
It's to this day one of my favourite artworks, that thrives poetically and gently in the liminal, connecting and welcoming of all surrounding life, while standing firmly anchored on its feet, unshakeable, unmovable - essence which i find preciously inspiring.
